I agree that ICT had a premature death for various reasons which included the issues of safety and effectiveness. Besides these, the advent of many powerful and effective psychotropic drugs between 1950-1960 possibly also added its premature death.

I believe there is some relationship between the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and plasma levels of insulin, like growth factor, as suggested by Palomino (2013). Besides this, there are several lines of evidence that insulin receptor functioning may be impaired in schizophrenia.

As suggested by me earlier, with the modern technology of insulin and glucose estimation in plasma imaging and newer EEG technology, we should try to know the usefulness of insulin in ICT before it is finally discarded.
