Janusz K. Rybakowski – Biographic sketch

 

            Prof. Janusz K. Rybakowski was the Head of Department of Adult Psychiatry, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland, between1995-2016. Previously, in 1985-1995, he was the Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, Medical Academy Bydgoszcz. In 1976-1977, he was NIH Fogarty Research Fellow, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He authored over 500 scientific articles on clinical psychiatry, neurobiology and psychopharmacology and his present Hirsch Index is 42. He is the author of the book “The Faces of Manic-Depressive Illness” (2009) and a member of editorial boards of Bipolar Disorders, Neuropsychobiology, Pharmacopsychiatry, International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice, Cardiovascular Psychiatry and Neurology, Depression Research and Treatment, Clinical Neuropsychiatry, Annals of General Psychiatry, International Journal of Bipolar Disorder, Current Psychiatry Reports, Revista Braileira de Psiquiatria, Journal of Affective Disorders, and the Field Editor of the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the European Bipolar Forum. In 2015, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Biological Psychiatry of the World Federation of the Societies of Biological Psychiatry.

Prof. Rybakowski was the President of the Polish Psychiatric Association (1998-2001), a Board Member of the Association of European Psychiatrists (1998-2004) and a member of the Board of Councilors, International Society of Bipolar Disorders (2003-2006). He is a member of ECNP, CINP, Society of Biological Psychiatry, International Society of Psychiatric Genetics, International Society of Affective Disorders, International Neuropsychiatric Association, International Group for the Study of Lithium-Treated Patients, and European Group for the Research in Schizophrenia.
