Az Isten van valamiként:

Minden Gondolatnak alján.

Mindig neki harangozunk

S óh, jaj én ott ülök a balján.

Az Isten könyörületes,

Sokáig látatlan és néma,

Csak a szivünkbe ver bele

Mázsás harangnyelvekkel néha.

Az Isten nem jön ám felénk

Hogy bajainkban segitsen:

Az Isten: az Én és a kin,

A terv s a csók, minden az Isten.

Az Isten hatalmas nagy ur,

Sötétség és világosság,

Rettenetes zsarnok lakó:

Lelkünkbe ezredévek hozták.

Az Isten az egyszerűség,

Unja  a tulságos jókat,

Unja a nyugtalanokat

S a sokszerű, nagy álmodókat.

Az Isten engem nem szeret,

Mert én sokáig kerestem,

Még meg se leltem s akkor is

Kötődtem vele s versenyeztem.

Az Isten van valamiként:

Minden Gondolatnak alján,

Mindig neki harangozunk

S óh, jaj, én ott ülök a balján.

On the Left Side of God

God is always around somehow:

Of every thought he is the guide,

All the bells keep tolling for him

And, oh, I sit on his left side.

God is gracious and merciful,

Mostly invisible and soundless,

He just beats into our hearts

Sometimes with large bell-clappers.

God never comes to us

To help with our problem:

God is: I and pure torment,

The plan, the kiss, all of them.

God is an almighty lord,

Darkness and bright light for all,

A tyrannical inhabitant:

Brought by thousands of years to our soul.

God is simplicity itself,

He is tired of those who're too good,

Tired of those who are restless

And those who have big dreams for good.

God does not like me for sure,

Because I sought after him forever,

Even before I found him

I had been his keen challenger.

God is always around somehow:

Of every thought he is the guide,

All the bells keep tolling for him

And, oh, I sit on his left side.
