Herman van Praag: Religion and Religious identity
Barry Blackwell’s response to Herman Van Praag’s reply
Herman van Praag’s curt and critical correction is accurate but deserves an in kind rebuttal.
Naivete caused me to assume Amos was mythical. His struggle to understand his faith and the roadblocks he encountered were elegantly and convincingly portrayed but how much more meaningful it might have been for readers of INHN if he told this tale as it applied to our profession. As my own story reveals, psychiatry is full of ethical pitfalls and predicaments with roadblocks that test our faith and adherence to the Hippocratic ideal. About these he remains silent.
