Hanfried Helmchen: The role of psychopharmacotherapy in the early development of social psychiatry in Germany

Shridhar Sharma’s response to Hanfried Helmchen’s reply

         I am thankful to Hanfried Helmchen also for bringing to my attention that in my comments on his essay the dates of  publication of the work in which the terms Psychierie and Soziale Psychiatrie were wrong and providing the  years (1803 and 1904, respectively) in which they were published.

         I am also thankful to Hanfried Helmchen for providing me with the information that Kraepelin’s experimental psycho-pathology work was conducted in the Laboratory of Wilhelm Wundt in Leipzig and that he performed his own studies in the field mainly in Tartu in Estonia.

         In 1978, when I was invited by Professor Haefner to Central Institute of Mental Health in Germany, I had the opportunity of visiting Heidelberg  where I learned of Kraepelin’s contributions during his tenure in Heidelberg, before becoming Professor in Munich.
