Curriculum Vitae - Laszlo Gyermek

Laszlo Gyermek has earned his M.D (1950) and PhD (1955) degrees in Budapest, Hungary. Primarily a neuropharmacologist with experience in structure-activity relationships and new drug development related clinical pharmacology, he has had academic appointments in Pharmacology at Budapest (1950-56) first.

In 1957, he immigrated to the United States where he became affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago (1957-60) as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology. From 1960- 62 he served as Senior Pharmacologist with Geigy Research Laboratories in Ardsley, N.Y. and from 1962-68 with the Syntex Corporation in Palo Alto, CA, as Associate Director of Biological Research.

He was Resident of Anesthesia at  Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. between 1966-68 and served there as Fellow of Clinical Pharmacology, Lecturer in Pharmacology and  Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology.  He has been engaged in clinical practice of Anesthesiology in Northern California and became Associate Professor of Anesthesia in Residence at the University of California, Davis, CA (1975-76).

After continuing clinical practice and clinical research until 1982, he spent two years in Saudi Arabia as Staff Anesthesiologist at the Al Hada Hospital in Taif, managed by the Saudi Ministry of Defense and Aviation.  After his return to the US, he continued with Anesthesia patient care, teaching and research at the VA Hospital and University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M. between 1984-86.

From 1986 through 2003 he served as Associate Professor and from 1991 as Professor of Anesthesiology at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, CA.

A longtime member of the CINP and many other professional (Medical and Pharmaceutical) Societies,  he has published extensively  (over 280  publications ) in the fields of cholinergic-, serotoninergic-,  anesthetic- and hormone- related pharmacology and in neuromuscular blocking  agent-related anesthesiology research. 

In clinical Anesthesiology, he administered/supervised over 15,000 anesthetic procedures.
