Samuel Gershon: The Tacrine paradigm

Samuel Gershon’s response to Hector Warnes’ response to  Gershon’s reply to Warnes’ comment

I thank Dr. Warnes for bringing to our attention other studies with THA and other Acetyl Cholinesterase being reported in the literature to treat Alzheimer’s Disease. However, in the US the studies used to obtain FDA approval have not been reproduced in a controlled design to establish efficacy.

Further, the advertising and marketing of these drugs for these purposes has ceased. So, the conclusion at this date is that there is no reliable double-blind controlled study evidence of efficacy. No benefit will result from quoting studies that do not meet these criteria and inducing patients to be subjected to such trials for no scientifically valid evidence to justify this usage.
